Sayer has such an interesting story, and she writes so well - clearly and concisely - she doesn’t flinch from the murky parts of life. Ultimately a story of an abusive marriage where the author is relentlessly criticised and gaslit by her husband who is both a liar and a cheat.

A compelling yet often distressing read. Sayer's writing is very authentic and despite the drama is never overwrought.

My heart breaks for all women trapped in these controlling, abusive relationships. Sayer's relief at getting out and making a new life for herself is evident in the epilogue '..a rush of relief so hard and strong I thought I would levitate.' Many aren't so fortunate.

Loved this memoir about Mandy Sayer's first marriage. It was evocative and page turning. She has a great writing style that feels like she's talking to a friend and it really drew me in. I'll be adding her other books to my TBR pile.
