Eine kurzweilige Sommerlektüre, die ganz amüsant beginnt, sich aber später dann doch als etwas langatmige und nervige Chicklit entpuppt.

Listened to this one. I almost DNF because the beginning seemed odd and a little slow. I'm glad I kept going. I was looking for recommendations after reading Mhairi McFarlane and while I prefer their style, I'll try more by this author.

what...did I just read. This book was terrible. It's a shame because I liked the idea but how it was written was just...arhhggg.
It's slow for a start, taking over 100 pages to get into her actually going to this trip and by this point, I already hate the main character aswell as all the other characters, so I don't give two shits on what's going on anyway. The plane could crash and I wouldn't a give a fuck.
She's annoying, whiny, dramatic....just everything you don't want in a main character. If I worked at her job, I'd fire her ass too. I hate her. Tess Brookes, ugh give me a break. She's been in love with her best friend aswell for 10 years and she kisses him and after that, he's like 'my place or yours?' then they have sex. After that, he's a douche and we find out he's also fucking her roommate who's probably the only character I like because she's sassy. Oh boo hoo. You're the one who just flushed ten years down the bog because you couldn't not sleep with him because he's oh so dreamy riiiiiight. I didn't like him either. She gets pissed that he's sleeping with her roommate, but really? They're not dating, her and Charlie, so it's not like he's cheating. I don't care anyway because I don't like any of them.
Her best friend's sister named her kids Bella and Katniss.................
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Hunger Games and I love Katniss but in this book, it was stupid. It just didn't fit into the book. (I still wouldn't mind calling my own kid Katniss) Maybe because it was just in this book and I hated everything but yeah, it felt out of place.
There was also a part I wanted to point out. She got "mugged" as in a guy sat next to her and was like 'i want your phone and wallet' and she said she didn't have a phone or anything and he said - no joke - "I have a spare iPhone, do you need to use it? Here, have it I have lots" then leaves her alone
this book is set in London, UK. Can I assure you that this won't happen in London. I know, I'm british and the mugger won't be like 'I'm terribly sorry to disturb you' NO If she's been "mugged" like that then she just got lucky.
All the language and references to british culture and slang made me feel like she was writing this for an American and that she's trying to prove she's british. We get it. You're british. Move on. Nobody in England says 'Bloody' that much. This book made me ashamed to be british sometimes....
1 star. I didn't even finish. Maybe for silly reasons but I jus lost my patience with it. There's so many other books that I have that I want to read and this was wasting my time.

'About a girl' is a light-hearted, raunchy comedy, chick-lit with its predictable sequence of events and dragged out storyline. I can't say I exactly enjoyed the whole book because there wasn't much going on, but while reading I envisioned a Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph movie with a stereotypical male gay character and bitchy flatmate. The whole cast of bridesmaids could be in this movie and I would definitely watch it, but as a book, it was dragged out (in my opinion) and never truly stuck to the plot. I mean for the most part, I did enjoy it, there was drama, totally unrealistic scenarios, alright sex scenes, you know I like the occasional 'comedic' chick flick/lit but over 400 pages of it..... it got a bit hard to handle. 3/5 stars

I loved this book. I absolutely loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that I'm now attempting to convince my bank account that we can afford a holiday to Hawaii, honest! I've only ever read one of Lindsey Kelk's book previously to this, and I'd completely forgotten what it was that made me impulse by the entire I Heart series after reading I Heart Christmas (backwards, I know). I'd forgotten how much Kelk makes me laugh out loud and I'd forgotten how her writing basically echoes how I talk in day to day life. Her characters are such potty mouths but I love them.
I absolutely adore Tess Brookes. I need a Tess Brookes in my life. On the same topic, I need an Amy too. She is absolutely fantastic. These ladies are two such real characters. I could picture them vividly and their friendship seemed so solid despite both of their many differences. I loved that they prove that opposites attract and they make for the most hilarious dialogue I've ever read. There wasn't anything I disliked about About a Girl. I thought everything was perfect. There isn't a page where you aren't cringing at something Tess has done, laughing at some situation that the characters have gotten themselves into, or shaking the book in frustration at the complicated love interest that is Nick Miller.
About a Girl trumps the I Heart book that I've read so far by a mile. I adored Tess so much and I loved how vivid Lindsey's world is in this book. Everything is so easily imaginable and it's been the perfect summer read. The book ended on a cliffhanger so you have no idea how relieved I am that I get to dive straight into What A Girl Wants. I'm so excited to read more of Tess' blunders and to see what the next book has in store for one of my favourite female characters of all time!

Sometimes we have to try on a few different personalities before we found ourselves.
I haven't got round to reading any of the 'I Heart...' series, so this was my first taste of Lindsey Kelk. In the beginning, I did find it hard to enjoy the main character, Tess, I found her attitude a lot more immature than her actual age. I found the plot clever, funny, and liked the fashionista route it took.
Tess is wrapped up in her job at an advertising agency, so it is a terrible shock to her when she is unexpectedly made redundant. Then she finally gets to sleep with the man she has had a crush on since they were both at university, but it doesn't turn out the way she had hoped. Following a case of mistaken identity, Tess takes on a photographic assignment in Hawaii.
It’s definitely a girl book. It’s got escapism, humor, sexiness, and even some real romance tucked in there.
Tess is the typical, little clumsy, pretty, very average kind of girl. Then we have Nick, the oh-so-handsome, perfect, and somewhat egoistic guy. Things go up and down and in the end… (See for yourself :b)
The evil roommate’s character was slightly unbelievable but provided certain necessities for the plot and some humor in the end. The main character’s love interest in Hawaii was written well enough that her raw sexual attraction to him was very…err….believable?
I like how it was written. The writer knows exactly how to capture her readers. It is funny, sad, touching, exciting, and absolutely insane at one point. I love that the main focus is the career of the protagonist through her romantic relationship is a big part. I hate how she is such an irresponsible drinker, and all these body issues parts, such clichés.
I'm not interested in fashion photography, so it didn't hook me on that and since I didn't like or relate to the main character I really had nothing to grasp onto.
At some point, everything just felt very slow and very frustrating and I almost felt like stopping reading this book but I'm glad I didn't. The story got better the longer I had read it.
Overall this is no Pulitzer Prize novel (Read about that award somewhere ┐•_•┌ ) but that was never its intention; what it does aim to do (be fun and entertaining) it does and delivers plenty of the levity that a great beach read should.
There are lots of glamour, lovely clothes, food, cocktails, etc., lush Hawaiian scenery, and naturally a gorgeous man. Although nothing in the rest of the book is as funny as the hilarious incident near the beginning where Tess meets the world's most hopeless mugger, the story was entertaining enough to keep me reading to the end. I might even read the sequels.

i have to be honest i put off reading this book because i love the i heart series i wish jenny and Angela were my best friends i did not want to be disappointed but after reading about a girl i was not disappointed at all i liked Tess i loved how she just went with her idea i loved where it was set in Hawaii, i am definitely team nick
