One of the few books I have read more than once. Considering it was when I was younger and it took me longer to get through a book, I think that says it all.
This holds up reasonably well, although it feels old-fashioned now. I appreciate that it has a mother as a main character- mothers so often get a bad deal in children's literature. It has a bit of a capitalist work-ethic thing going on, but lots of fun intrigue.

Not my first read but always a good one. Better than the movie. More complex and a better dissection of the relationship between humans (especially scientists) and animals. Good for kids and adults who, like me, enjoy comfort reads once in a while.
