Wonderful book! Rich story and moving. I had the disadvantage of growing up watching the movie version. So I compared them a lot. And the movie had a lot of magical components that I actually missed in the book. I also liked the fighting between the rats in the movie because it added more drama to it.

Both of them are amazing but I personally like the movie better. But I don’t know if that is because of years of nostalgia.

I read this book out loud to my 7 year old who would fall asleep after just a paragraph. It took us FOREVER to finish. Often times I would have to re-read what I had read in the morning to him. But we finally finished the book and he absolutely loved it! Ten out of ten, he said!

I've never actually seen the movie but I think it would be fun to watch it with him. The book is such a great children's book. It really stresses the importance of education and what a privilege it is, not something to scoff at or dismiss. It can open doors and introduce you to worlds outside of your own worldview. More adults should read this book. What a different world we would be if we were more like the rats of NIMH.
