I absolutely adore the movie "Secret of NIMH," so I had to pick up the source material. Unfortunately, it mainly felt like a large info dump right when Mrs. Frisby, aka Brisby, went into the rose bush. And the bland writing and lack of magic were more than disappointing. Did everything seem too... easy? Yet other things were unresolved. What happened to Justin? Was he one of the injured rats? Who knows. Still a great read for kids, but not as imaginative as the adaptation.

I first read this book in Year 4, and I don't think I fully appreciated it! Re-reading it gave me so much joy, I didn't realise it had so much nostalgic value for me haha.

A tad old fashioned (ex. “Mrs. Jonathan Frisby”) but an enjoyable classic. My kids liked it.

I read this with my 8 year-old son and I liked it even more than when I was a kid.

A sci-fy classic masquerading as a children’s book!

I haven’t read this one since childhood. I grew up watching the 80s movie and read this after. Revisiting this story was such a delight.
