Could remember having read it and loved it as a kid but could not remember a thing about it any more. Did a re-read, and it's a bona fide classic for a reason. The story continuously brings you along, a bit of current-day story drama mixed with a secrets-of-the-past storyline. Mrs Frisby is a wonderful everyperson-protagonist, and the mix of different animals and their personalities and relationships was well done too.
What a wonderful book! This book provided so much discussion and imaginative play among my children. They would beg for "just one more chapter" after each reading. I have to admit that I felt the same and couldn't wait to find out what happened next as the story progressed. I would highly recommend this as a family read aloud or audio book. Very entertaining and thought provoking!
I actually really loved this book. There were so many layers and would allow for great discussion with younger readers. It was a thought-provoking story and an easy read.
I grew up watching the movie, the Secret of Nimh, in the 80's and 90's, but had never read the book. We read it aloud as a family and my kids were skeptical about it going in, but every night they begged for one more chapter. It was a fun ride learning about the rats of NIMH and there was a lot of suspense wondering what would happen to them.
One of my all time favorite books from my childhood! I re read it recently and fell in love all over again. I love imagining little societies among the animals out there in our yards and I also love miniature things.
I read this aloud to my five year old. He was riveted throughout the story. I don't remember reading it as a child, but I enjoyed it as an adult. I would recommend as a read aloud for five to ten year olds.
