I remember my teacher reading this book to us and then making us watch the movie which I remember was a lot different then the actual book. Anyway I can't actually remember what this book was about. I think it was about some mice fighting some rats?
Cute enough though and I wish I had read more of it when I was younger (as if there is something to stop me from reading it now).

I loved this book so much - Ms Frisby is such a lovely character and I loved the rats. I never watched the movie but this book made me want to watch the movie. I loved the fact that this book is subtly about animal testing and I loved the entire story- Mrs Frisby's son gets sick and after she goes to the doctor to get the medicine she saves a crow, he brings her to a wise old owl who suggests that she should contact her super inteligent neighbors rats- who were taken by humans and the humans performed tests on them making them super intelligent - the rats help her move her house so she and the kids don't have to move to their summer forest home just yet since Timothy is still sickly and in turn she saves the rats and helps them move to a new place where they can build their own society and live away from the humans. I know that there are two more books in this series and I cannot wait to read them next!

The story moves along quickly and touches on various big themes in a gentle way, but it is just lacking a certain something to knock it up a notch or two. Maybe it's that the world of the story isn't developed enough, or just the strange situating of it in a setting that isn't quite natural but isn't quite fantastical. I couldn't tell if these animals were living in the style of Beatrix Potter or Thornton Burgess -- their world bridges both uncomfortably, with the author not really making it clear not developing his own vision.

Great book. I unfortunately watched the movie first which mostly ruined Robert C. O'Brien's story so don't waste your time with the movie. This is a wonderful book that I will one day move from my bookcase to my son's bookcase when he's old enough to read. Easy 5 star.
