I remember liking the movie adaptation when I was younger. The book feel a bit more dry.

This was recommended to me by a co-worker. I enjoyed the Secret of NIHM movie and only recently learned that it was based on a book.
Now that I've read it (well listened to it) I have to say.... I liked the movie more.
The book is fine. The story is interesting. I liked the characters.
It doesn't have any of the fantasy/magic elements that were added for the movie, which is some of the things I really liked about the movie.
The narration by Barbara Caruso was excellent. I would rate this closer to 3.5, but I don't think it's up to 4 stars by my standards.

I remember this book be fantastic as a kid, so I reread it to go back into my childhood memories and it didn't feel the same. The Book felt slow. I still really like the rats and the story behind the rats, but moving the house felt so boring.

I loved the movie as a kid, but never knew about the book until I got older. I was really shocked by how different it was, I still love the movie and was sort of bummed by the lack of the dark mystical element the movie added. However both the rats and Jonathan have really poignant things to say throughout. I enjoyed it!
