I had watched the movie has a child unaware that it was a book let alone a book series. This was an incredibly nostalgic read for me and I am incredibly appreciative of the fact I got to read this. The movie was so much more terrifying than the book but honestly worth the read. Huge fan of this book and so glad that I got to read this. Definitely recommend if you have ever seen this movie.
Utterly charming and not a little chilling in places. The gender roles date it (written by a middle-aged man at the turn of the seventies) but Mrs Frisby is still a hero whose courage and tenacity in the face of a world turned upside down tugs at the heartstrings. (Yes, I teared up a little. I defy any parent not to)

This was a good selection for the Newbery Award. Solid story, good writing.
It was fun to revisit one of my favorite books that I had read to my children 25-30 years ago. This is an engaging and well written story that is interesting because of how the author personified the rats. I barely thought of this as an animal story because the rats were so advanced! Throw in some adventure and you have a book that is tough to put down once you begin reading it. I'd highly recommend this book for any reader over 8 as I think even a young reader won't be put off by the experimenting on the rats done at NIMH as it was not covered in gory detail.
