I remembered this book as a classic from my childhood, and I wanted my kids to hear it. We listened to the book during various car trips, and it took a while to finish it. The book is as good as I remember, although it is dated. My older son gives it four stars and says he liked it. My younger son says that he didn't always understand what was going on (which makes sense to me), but he gives it three stars.
Oh wow, I was obsesssssssed with this movie as a kid and the book was even betterrrrrrr! I'm kind of annoyed I took so long to get around to it. Lol.

I reread this childhood favorite, worried that it wouldn't hold up, but it did! So well. This book about the liberatory power of reading, collective action, and interdependence was as good at 49 as it was at 9. It felt timely, given all that we have with climate change, rising fascism, and corporate greed. Highly recommend.

It's a classic. I enjoyed it in 4th grade and I enjoy it now. I think it could have been a little longer since it feels like Nicodemus's story takes up half the book but it's still a very solid book.
