Fun to introduce a beloved book from my childhood!

Read this with Stella and am so bummed I missed it when I was a kid- so good!

Spoiled by the movie. I’ve seen the movie so many times as a kid that the differences in the book threw me off. I like the movie better, even if just because of childhood memories.

I can't believe I'd never read this one before. It was a great read-aloud. Told at a relaxed pace but very compelling, and ending with questions that made me wish there was more of it. It's surprisingly emotionally affecting for an old story about mice and rats. There's a wistfulness and a weight to the whole thing that was just right for me right now. I really enjoyed it.

Super cute book! I loved the movie as a kid, and read the book as an adult. (The movie actually followed the book really well.) My third graders really enjoyed the book, and I did, too.

I enjoyed this children's' book. Mrs. Frisby found that she was not as alone in the world as she thought when a colony of rats came to help her move her family to a safer place. Reading about friends helping friends was a perfect way to pass an afternoon or two of reading.

adorable. the movie adaptation is a little more exciting, but still, very good

An adult version of this book would have been amazing.

Just been going back and reading some of the cool, "big" books from when I was kid- equal parts reminiscing and curiosity.
Do the stories that shaped me still hold up; and for this that is a some kind of fine line.

Which the story is for kids, I can easily move past any inconsistencies that an "adult" book might be condemned for ie: if the rats are supposed to be enhanced, home come all the other animals seem to be just as smart and articulate as they are... and why doesn't Dragon speak? I can overlook this because, well, who cares really.... it is a great read, fun characters, and what a damn interesting world.

Where there was a disconnect for me (some people might not have even noticed or cared), is when we finally meet the rats and then over half the book is the rats' story- but because it is such an interesting one (arguably more interesting than Mrs. Frisby's by a hair, it is easy to enjoy and not give a moment's thought. Reading the book as an adult, you get all these other thoughts swimming around- just little niggling thoughts, but annoying thoughts nonetheless.

And that is really it- actually. Loved going back to this one... love it. Love everyone in it. One last note, and this note comes from my inner child: Would have been nice to have Jeremy come back at the end; young me was hoping for him to come back (more so than the kids' speaking of him in the epilogue- which still, was nice.)
