"Mrs. Frisby, the head of a family of field mice, lived in an underground house in the vegetable garden of a farmer name Mr. Fitzgibbon. It was a winter house, such as some field mice move to when food becomes too scarce and the living too hard in the woods and pastures. In the soft earth of a bean, potato, black-eyed pea and asparagus patch, there is plenty of food left over for mice after the human crop has been gathered."

I hate rats and mice, but I absolutely LOVED this book. It brings loyalty, intelligence, and bravery into consideration for the valuable things they are. It's well-written, can appeal to a mother just as well as a grade schooler, is suspenseful, and I'd recommend it to anybody.

This was one of my favorite books as a child. I loved it so much I remembered it and just recently read it with my 11 year old son. IT STANDS THE TEST OF TIME! He enjoyed the book just as much as I did.

My boys didn't want this book to end. One asked if there is a second book of this as I read the last page.

A brilliant story which I only now found the opportunity to enjoy. Striking similarity to the film for the first half of the story, but major changes to the climactic ending which greatly alters what the story is about. Lovely read!

This book caught me crying over some rats smh. I love this book, always have. It was one of my favorites as a kid and I just have to say, my taste back then? Exquisite. Ok anyways all that aside this book is still a kids book, so you need to keep that in mind. It's a really solid plot for a kids book, I liked all the characters, the stakes felt high, but it was a LOT shorter than I remembered, and a lot less detailed. That shouldn't be a surprise because the last time I read it was in elementary school but oh well. I'd love if it were longer but it's made for 9 year olds so. Other than detail I loved this book. I don't know why it's just so good. It's sweet but realistic but somehow about rodents? Ok. The rats story is fascinating and even though Mrs. Frisby is just a mother mouse she's a great character, the author is really good at building connection and sympathy. The stakes were normal problems but I felt like they were well written and I didn't mind that they weren't fantastical. All in all this book is fairly straightforward so there's not really much for me to say other than it's a delightful read and I wish there was more of it.

this is one of my favorites from childhood. I'm so happy to have the pleasure of rereading it again and again

Loved this book as a child when my Grade 3 teacher, Mrs. Shaw, read it aloud to our class. Tim "The Enchanter" do you remember that?
Loved it as an adult! Looking forward to reading with my son :)

A fine fantasy.
