This book gave me major nostalgia vibes, as I remember watching The Secret of NIMH as a child. As I read, I could practically see the movie playing out in my head. It made for such a fun and familiar experience! I ended up reading this book in one sitting, and it was absolutely worth it. The story is such an intriguing take on animal testing, blending sci-fi and fantasy elements in a way that felt unique and well done. Mrs. Frisby is a wonderful protagonist, and the rats' story is both fascinating and thought-provoking. Overall, this book brought back fond memories and was a delightful read. A great mix of adventure, heart, and an interesting premise—I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it!
Quite good, although, yet again, I'm not sure if my childhood love of the movie has warped my vision of the book. Probably. I'll be off to watch the movie now.

Kid-lit prior to the YA boom is way better, at least as an adult. I probably would have thought this was boring when I was in elementary school, but this satisfies the twee cottage-core itch for me nowadays. It’s cutesy but it doesn’t skimp on the PG-rated Mild Peril. Also I wouldn’t have noticed this as a kid but there’s a weird objectivist streak in the rat society, it’s a distinctly “uhh, it was of its time” take on the back-to-the-land movement.
