This ended up being quite an engaging children's book. For the first half or so it didn't seem like there was much of a plot (most of the action took place in the past and is being retold), but then there were additional twists and turns to the plot near the end. I loved the idea of extra-intelligent rats who wanted to build their own civilization and had moral qualms about stealing. At times my suspension of disbelief was stretched a bit far, like when Justin told Mrs. Frisby to climb down something "like a fireman's pole," which he might be familiar with from books but which the barely literate field mouse would realistically have said, "Like a what?" But overall I thought it was a fun and interesting book, and I would share it with my kids. Also, this is the second book I've listened to this year that was narrated by Barbara Caruso (the first being The Year of Magical Thinking), and she does an excellent job.

Loved it. Thankfully I have a rubbish memory so couldn't remember the plot from the film.

This was one of my favorite books as a kid. I listened to the audiobook with my daughter and she enjoyed it but it didn’t quite hold up for me this time. I just kept getting irritated and the forced mid century gender roles assigned to rodents.
