May be better read in print; I know it was for the poetic effect but so many times when listening the pause was so long it was awkward and I thought something was wrong with the audio. Even on 1.25 speed.

This short coming-of-age novel-in-verse introduces you to Sky who is experiencing struggles that will be relatable to many readers. I liked this exploration of what it means to be a girl growing up in the world, especially what it means to be a black teenager. I would have liked for more character development with the main character as well as going deeper on some of the subject matter.

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Kids for my gifted copy. I hate to rate a poetry book low but but I just didn't care for this one that much. I couldn't get past some of the misspelled words. It made it feel like it didn't flow very well.

This was a beautifully written novel in verse! I love coming of age books that explore all sorts of social topics. This wasn’t my favorite novel in verse—there were some fantastic lines but the overall story didn’t capture my attention—but I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and easy read.

A novel in verse or long form poetry... call this tale what you want. It is the first person perspective coming of age story of a girl who loves basketball and who finds herself drifting away from her best friend.

A fresh and evocative novel written in verse with a main character who has a wonderfully strong, likeable voice. Would definitely recommend to readers who enjoy Elizabeth Acevedo or Nic Stone!
