A fresh and evocative novel written in verse with a main character who has a wonderfully strong, likeable voice. Would definitely recommend to readers who enjoy Elizabeth Acevedo or Nic Stone!

I bought this because I thought it was a poetry book. I was wrong. Anyway.
I really related to / understood the emotions of the character so it got some extra points. Other than that it's just okay.

it’s alright, i have no complaints. the book is written in free verse and the writing isn’t half bad, the characters are interesting but not interesting enough for me to be invested or care a whole lot, but the story itself is realistic and relatable and the book has an inspiring message/theme for teens going through similar things that sky did. it’s a nice short book to read when you’re in a reading slump or you just want to read a book that’s not too complicated.
Minor: Sexism, Abandonment, and Sexual assault

I liked the novel in poetry format. Especially for this story of teen - finding oneself beyond a best friend and relationships.

Wow - such an exploration of identity and how it can be so twisted to conform to others' needs and expectations, the effects of family and friends, early experiences, and constant messages.
I especially loved "After Fourth Grade" and "I Just Want to Hoop."
Narration by the author was fantastic - clear, modulated, and with feeling. I highly recommend listening to it in tandem with reading or before/after.
