So cute! I love a story that is outside of white American culture, no hate to it, but these recent LatinX and Muslim and black and indigenous love stories have really broadened my reading journey and has made me greedy for more!

It’s Romeo and Juliet, west side story with a happy ending! Contemporary, filled with mariachis, foster care and fade to black (which was not my favorite). Also, I really appreciate when it is a love story that isn’t between teens or young 20 year olds. These individuals were pushing 30, relatable (in my case).

This was so cute! It made me feel so nostalgic for San Antonio, my hometown.

I loved reading Mariana and Angelo’s story in the midst of this city that is so familiar to me. When the author mentions Mi Tierra restaurant, I can picture standing in line for pan dulce, listening to the mariachis, and enjoying the festive Mexican decor at the famous landmark. They share a special “date” at Whataburger and it turns in to a whole little inside joke with them. My hometown is where Whataburger began, so they are everywhere here and definitely our family’s favorite.

I just don't really care about this book, and I am only trying to read it because I got it via NetGalley for Bonker's Romance Book Club.

To start off, I went in knowing this was a forbidden love scenario but this one just dragged a little too much for my liking. I would kinda consider this a slow burn. And I understand and this is just my personal opinion and I completely that I fall into the naive eneas of the problem but the whole “gentrification” talk literally the whole book annoyed me. As a Mexican I’m glad it’s bringing awareness to the topic but at one point for me it was just too much for me. One of the main reasons I wanted to read this was because I love my Mexican culture and I feel like there isn’t enough representation in contemporary books for us. So of course I had to give it a try. Honestly I got kinda bored with the plot but I was okay with the romance between Angelo and Mariana. The spice was alright nothing too crazy

Decent story. You know the trope: the two families don’t get along and yet the buy and girl falls in love. Will they make it work?
