Romeo & Juliet Retelling-esque
Fade to black with lots picante.

I love books where there is Spanish mixed in and the characters celebrate what makes their culture great (especially latinx culture).
The storyline of old patriarchical tradiciones vs modern equal views is great! I love the strength of familia ties. As the eldest in a latinx household I can totally relate with Marianna, but her sister Catalina's poderosa power attitude is all me as well, love them!
Angelo is definitely an angel. He's definitely a swoon worthy addition to my fav fiction bf list. Hajahaja.

Really enjoyed this story, can't wait to read the next in the series.

I enjoyed this mariachi retelling of Romeo and Juliet. Set in San Antonio & steeped in rich, Hispanic culture, this story tells the tale of the Montero & Capuleta families battling it out for the mariachi championship. Set apart by a decades-old feud started by their elders, Mariana and Angelo find each other and fall in love. Their hope is to save their love by somehow bridging the gap between their families and instigating peace.

The romance in this book isn’t too spicy, with some details but it ultimately fades to black.

My biggest complaint is that there were some loose sends that needed tying up. For example, there were several instances of someone supposedly feeding the Montero family information about the Capuleta family. We never found out who did that. There is a second book coming out with these characters, so perhaps this will be addressed there.

Very cheesy, seemed for more YA, planned on finishing since I had started it but then wasn’t reading as much, doing only audiobooks. Needed to start a different book to get back into and don’t feel like finishing now

3.5 rounded up to 4. I liked the writing a lot. I think it was my mindset currently that didn’t have me running to pick up the book. I liked the main characters, I liked their love story, though her on/off approach to it was a tad annoying. Like she would be like “whatever I’m interested, I’m going forward with this relationship” and then she would get nervous and ghost him. Cute, heartwarming, enjoyable
