I liked the world-building and the lush, relaxed magnificence of the locations described.

But the last third of the book was so unsatisfying. No plot, no movement, just…what felt like 150 pages of preparing to do something.

Do I want to know the answers enough to read the next two? Unsure.

This was a very enjoyable romp through the supernatural world that we like to imagine lies hidden beneath our mundane reality. I hate to say it but it reminds me a lot of Twilight for adults. Thank goodness the characters have a bit more substance and the heroine is more her own person than Bella and less helplessly in love with her vampire. Plus, Diana is a witch, although a reluctant one, with her own power. That being said, Diana still drives me insane with her fits and starts of courage. One minute she’s brave and powerful, then all of sudden brave Diana disappears and she becomes afraid of everything and will not face reality. By the end, I was ready for it to be over.
Please, please, please let her be less annoying in the next book!

I really wanted to like this but it was a bit too much "adult Twilight" for me. The most frustrating thing was the rushed ending (sort of like, oops this many pages already? I better wrap it up) and a LOT of loose ends.

I enjoyed this book, though it seemed slow in places. I wish I had known it was the first in a series before I started it however. Now I have to wait forever and a day for the sequel. Still, nice take on witches-daemons-vampires living among humans. Recommend.
