This was a hefty book with a ton of information. It was a fun book to read throughout the fall months. The last 150-200 pages of the book flew by and I couldn’t put it down. I already ordered the second book because I can’t wait to find out more about these wonderful characters. Perfect combination of history and fantasy.

Made it 50%. It needed serious editing. The premise was interesting enough, but the relationship between Diana and Matthew was dull. There were only so many times I could scoff or roll my eyes at the dialogue between two apparent adults who liked each other. It read very juvenile. And for a woman who said she is fiercely independent, she sure didn't act like it. Her complete surprise at the consequences of her not wanting to do magic was more like a child than an adult. There was also wayyy too much description for the most mundane things and I wish more had been directed at the magic system. Halfway through and barely anything happened, but I do know that Diana wore a lot of athleisure wear and drank some wine.

It's not all bad. I really enjoyed the scientific background of Matthew and the setting at Oxford. The idea behind the magical book was also intriguing.

This was such a cool book! Because it was witches, there were historical ties, which was fun. This book is definitely a forbidden romance type, and I had feared that it would overtake the rest of the story, but it really didn’t whatsoever, and I loved that! Definitely would recommend to friends!

Unsure if I'll finish, finshed the book but have no wherewith all to finish the series. Loved the world building of the book but it was wayyyyyyy to long for the story
