Luis Soriano, a Columbian schoolteacher and avid reader, shares his books and love of reading with children in remote villages through his biblioburro program. A marvelous book to promote reading and the need for books in rural areas.

Based on a true story, this would be a great book to introduce small children to the idea that not every culture is like ours. Not every child has access to books! I totally love the idea of book donkeys (what I wouldn't give to cuddle one)-- but unfortunately, my favorite illustration turned out to be the cover. Solid illustrations throughout, and sure to hold a child's interest, just nothing that blew me away. I'd definitely recommend this one for a classroom or themed read-aloud, though.

Based on the life of Luis Soriana, a school teacher who loves books, who decides to create a library on the backs of donkeys and visit small villages in the mountains of Columbia.

A simple but charming true story about a man who shares his mobile book collection (via donkeys) with children in rural villages of Colombia. The brightly colored illustrations are a treat. Recommended for book lovers and fans of fable-like adventures.

Based on the life of Luis Soriana who delivers books to children in remote parts of Columbia -- via burro. My favorite part was the nearly wordless two-page spread where Luis tells the children -- who he has given pig masks to -- the story of the three little pigs. The story is depicted in thought bubbles above the children's heads. Illustrated with really bright colored, folk art style illustrations by Winter.

Based on a true story about a man in Colombia who takes books to the children in the mountains. Nice story to use with younger grades to help them understand that having a library in school is a privilage.
