I thought it was a neat little story overall. I think the romance between Houndstooth and Hero was extremely rushed, though, but this is a novella, which I suspect to have begun as an entertaining "What if?" to the author, entertainment being the focus, with its outlandish historical reimagining perhaps not meant to be held to close scrutiny. The characters similarly come across as cartoony, but I did enjoy the ideas of them--especially Archie, but that may be my penchant for fat people portrayed decently in media, and a fat pickpocket who speaks in obnoxious French and wears suits is insanely beautiful to me.
