This was a decent introduction to the Ghosts of the Shadow Market bind up. I enjoyed Mathew as a character and am interested to see how the other novellas work out.

I will say, Goodreads is incorrect on the order of the novellas singularly. Cast Long Shadows is the first novella in the bind up.

This took me way too long to finish. As much as I love my son Matthew Fairchild, I found the plot quite dull and it didn’t make me ugly cry like the first one did.

we went from

“He had never been taught to close himself off, to do anything but delight and trust in the world.”

to

“He laid his cheek against the cold floor and refused to let himself weep again. He knew he could not be forgiven.”

Poor Matthew Fairchild, my heart breaks for him :(
Life in the Shadowhunter universe is just too damn unfair. If you read this get your tissues ready!

Another great book from Cassandra Clare, I can't wait for the next one!

10/10

Somebody say sike please, it can’t end like this…

Metthew you are a proper idiot and James you don’t disappoint as well. I am super excited to read "The Last Hours" after this, I just know it’ll hurt.

Oh Matthew... My heart. Love him so much. Not sure if I recommend reading this before or after TLH. He does confess what happened in book 2 of TLH to one character specifically, so bc of that I'm not sure when it's better to read it.

This was truly unexpected. I do not know any English word that can describe what I felt when Matthew's sin is. It introduced us to The Last Hours, which I now can't wait to have in my hands. 5 stars because I truly didn't see that coming. I really really liked this one.
