Abdurraqib’s essay collection reveal a passionate, thoughtful, and generous writer with a poet’s eye and critics ear. If you have the opportunity to listen to this collection’s audiobook narrated by the author I urge you to do so. The intensity of his joy and grief was beyond infectious, often I paused the recording to say, out loud, “he gets it!!!”, because the intensity of abdurraqib’s words in concert with his performance were too much to bear, or to listen to an artist in a whole new light or for the first time. I cannot wait to get my hands on his poetry collection.
