Abdurraqib is one of the best living writers of our time. 5 stars because even though I don’t share his music taste and don’t generally gravitate towards criticism about music, his more personal essays about place, grief, and growing up Black and Muslim were some of the best I’ve ever read.

i learned so much from this in terms of expression and craft. this was a great reminder for me of how many different kinds of readings should inform our actions (not just theory) and then we need to *do something*; definitely going to keep sitting with this too

was also wild to remember that this was published in 2017; so many things can change in 8+ years
