Abdurraqib is one of the best living writers of our time. 5 stars because even though I don’t share his music taste and don’t generally gravitate towards criticism about music, his more personal essays about place, grief, and growing up Black and Muslim were some of the best I’ve ever read.

Graphic: Death, Racism
Moderate: Gun violence, Death of parent
"I don't want my people to die in order to be loved, or even seen." foreword nails it: Abdurraqib writes in a way that shocks you with its specificity, like: how could he know?
