Talented thriller author, Elizabeth Heiter returns with her highly anticipated Profiler series, following Hunted (The Profiler, #1), Vanished (The Profiler, #2), Avenged (The Profiler#2.5), Seized (The Profiler #3), to her latest:

STALKED (The Profiler #4) FBI profiler Evelyn Baine returns, as we delve into the innermost connections of deep secrets of the victim as well as the heroine’s past. An intriguing puzzle, as two cases connect. "The best of the series, thus far!

A teenage girl goes missing. Haley Cook. A straight-A student. It had been a month since she went missing. Haley’s boyfriend Jordan had dropped her off at school for cheerleading practice.

Her mom, Linda stays on top of the police investigation daily as well, and social media. Forcing herself out of the house to hopefully find out information about her daughter’s whereabouts.

How could a seventeen-year-old girl just disappear? What had she got herself into that would get her killed. The media loved to refer to her as “all-American.”

Fans get to catch up with FBI Profiler, Evelyn Baine, and Kyle McKenzie.

They had both worked for the FBI-she as a profiler in the behavioral Analysis Unit and Kyle up until a month ago, as an operator for the Hostage Rescue Team. He had been off work since taking a bullet on a mission. She’d known how risky the mission was and couldn’t help but think she hadn’t pushed hard enough to stop HRT from going in.

Now here they were, he pretending he was Ok, and she pretending she did not feel guilty. They had been dating for six months and she missed seeing him at work. Evelyn had always been a private person in an office full of other profilers.

Of course, Evelyn is reminded of another blond-haired girl from her past. Cassie, her friend who disappearance had sent Evelyn into profiling years ago.

There was a lack of clues yet the story had captivated the country and was well-known. No one had seen Haley since she walked into the high school a month ago. Unless she had been killed there. If so where was the body?

Evelyn had a bad feeling. Then the mom found the note. A key piece of evidence gone unnoticed. If her note was correct, the person had already killed her.

Pete the stepfather, Father, Bill, Mother, Linda, Marissa the friend, Jordan, the college boyfriend.

Who would want to hurt Haley?

She has good friends, including her best friend, Marissa. Haley has also been dating an older college guy, Jordan. By all accounts, Haley doesn't have any enemies, and certainly, no one would ever want to hurt her.

In the midst of the case, old memories resurface from Evelyn’s past.

To the world, family and friends were grieving and searched as hard as they could for Haley. However, up close, there was a strange dynamic in the household. There was a clear animosity between the Varners and Bill (biological father). Where did Haley fit? How many secrets did this family have.?

With more than a half-million people reported missing every year in the US alone. The first twenty-four hours were crucial, the first forty-eight the most likely time to make a live recovery. After a month, the chances were practically nonexistent. Especially when the victim was a beautiful teenage girl.

Meanwhile, Kyle and his partner, Jimmy are looking into an attack in local college student Tonya Klein. Human trafficking. Does this case connect with Haley’s disappearance?

While Evelyn tracks all the secrets in the life of a missing teenager and her family, navigating hidden agendas and motives that might mean the girl’s death, the reader also gets a glimpse into Evelyn’s past and the secret she didn’t keep as a child that changed her own life.

Keeping secrets can have unintended consequences. Evelyn spends two weeks chasing a girl surrounded by secrets that had nearly ended her own life. She goes back to when she was ten years old once again.

At an early age, she put into motion all the things to come in her own life. From FBI agent to Kyle. Her journey to a life of her own, not burdened by secrets and lies from the past.

Elizabeth is a pro at blending police procedures with psychological suspense and mystery with top-notch crime writing. From well-researched material, a fast moving plot, to exceptional character development. She keeps you glued to the pages from the first page to the last.

Since I have read the series from the beginning, it has been fun following bi-racial female profiler, Evelyn, and Kyle (hope we will see more of this team)! She is strong, gutsy, and edgy!

Highly recommend reading all the books in the series. Fans of Mary Burton's Morgans of Nashville series will enjoy!

A special thank you to Mira and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Despite this being the fourth (and last) installment in a series, this reads excellently as a stand alone. I appreciate that the author has included a brief synopsis at the beginning to go over the events of her previous book for readers who find that kind of thing helpful. There is also a glossary of terms included since abbreviations are used quite a bit throughout, so I appreciate the extra steps the author has made to make her book feel easier to read.

This has fantastic pacing and excellent build up. We go between Evelyn and her boyfriend Kyle who are both working on separate cases at first, only to find out that they are linked. There are a few side characters who also have interesting parts in the story that's all relevant to the main plot and I found that everything tied together just beautifully. It kept you guessing and had both detective work and action woven together. Both cases and characters were interesting and I found this difficult to put down. This is also not very graphic at all, despite covering some very heinous crimes.

I picked this up at random due to the cover drawing me in, not having read anything by this author before. This certainly made a good impression on me and I would definitely give this author another read should I come across any of her other books.

Could not put this book down. Absolutely loved it! Really interesting when everything came together. I tried to guess what happened, and who did what, but I completely failed. Which obviously made me enjoy this book even more! Can't wait for the next Profiler book!

I received an advance review copy of this book courtesy of Netgalley and the publisher.

"If you're reading this, I'm already dead..."

Seven little words. That's all it took to sell me on reading this book. I had to know who wrote it and why. Most importantly, I needed to know if they were dead. And it didn't matter that I'd barely begun to read the blurb, and had no idea what the story was about. A blurb that starts like that simply cannot be ignored.

When I requested the ARC, I didn't notice it was part of a series. I don't like reading books out of order, but fortunately it wasn't a problem. There are a few references to events that occurred in previous books, but it's not confusing at all.

I really enjoyed the Evelyn Baine character. She reminded me of the Emily Prentiss character on Criminal Minds in many ways, which (for me) made her that much more interesting.

I was very impressed with Heiter's ability to weave such a complex tale. There was never a dull moment, and the stakes were high throughout the story. There was a palpable sense of urgency in the search for Haley Cooke that steadily increased and kept me on the edge of my seat as one lead after another was investigated. The action-packed ending was fantastic, giving readers an extremely satisfying resolution.

4.5 stars.

Stalked is a mesmerizing addition to Elizabeth Heiter's The Profiler series starring FBI Agent Evelyn Baines. Although this newest release is the fourth novel in the series, it can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend the previous installments as well.

Seventeen year old Haley Cooke has been missing for a month when profiler Evelyn Baines is assigned to the case after the teenager's mother, Linda Varner, finds a troubling note in her daughter's room. With Detective Sophia Lopez's help, Evelyn re-interviews the key players in the case and although there is no new evidence, several of the people in Haley's life appear to be less than forthcoming about the missing girl. Evelyn cannot put her finger on anything specific but something about Haley's stepfather Pete Varner seems a little off. Haley's college boyfriend Jordan Biltmore is obviously upset about her disappearance but his smug attitude grates on both Evelyn and Sophia. Haley's father, Bill, is clearly angry and bitter over the divorce and Evelyn cannot help but wonder why he is convinced Haley has run away from home. Haley's best friend Marissa Anderson reveals her suspicions that Haley was cheating on Jordan with his best friend Nate Stokes but both Evelyn and Sophia have doubts about her claim.

Evelyn's boyfriend and fellow FBI Agent Kyle "Mac" McKenzie and his partner Jimmy Drescott are looking into a troubling attack on local college student Tonya Klein. Their investigation of her claim she was forced into human trafficking reveals a few inconsistencies with other human trafficking cases they have worked on. However, they have no reason to doubt her story and following her death, neither Jimmy nor Kyle are quite ready to give up looking into her case. Surprisingly, their investigation intersects with some of the principals in Haley's disappearance and raises questions about whether there is a connection between the two cases.

Evelyn and Sophia know that with every passing day Haley's chance for survival drops so they are under intense pressure to find the one clue that will break the case wide open. They feel certain that one of the people in Haley's life is responsible for her disappearance but they are frustrated by their inability to uncover any new evidence. Evelyn is also quite concerned that her objectivity might be comprised since she is struck by similarities between Haley's life and her own childhood experiences.

Stalked by Elizabeth Heiter is a suspense-laden mystery that is full of unexpected twists and turns. The investigation takes on a heightened sense of urgency after Kyle's and Evelyn's cases converge. When it appears that someone will go to any lengths to stop them from discovering the truth about Haley's whereabouts, Evelyn and Sophia know they are on the right track. Will Evelyn, Sophia, Kyle and Jimmy put the pieces of the puzzle together and rescue Haley before it is too late?

The only thing that I regret about reading this book is that I didn't discover this series earlier. STALKED does a wonderful job of standing on its own but I would enjoy reading even more of Evelyn & Kyle's back story.

This book offers an in-depth look at just what a profiler does when they are invited in by a police department. In this case, Evelyn is invited in when a teenage girl is kidnapped and nothing seems to add up. In the course of this investigation, Evelyn also has to deal with some remaining issues from her childhood especially when her estranged mother suddenly appears.

STALKED has a tight plot with a good deal of tension as everyone is hoping to be able to get Haley back alive. There is also a good deal of growth among the well developed characters. This is a book to sink your teeth into.

I do recommend STALKED to any of my readers who enjoy a well written police procedural with a kick-ass heroine. You might want to grab the whole series if you haven't read it up to now.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.

When a seventeen-year-old girl, Haley, goes missing, police are puzzled to what could have happened to this all-American girl. Enter FBI profiler, Evelyn Baine. On the surface, this popular teenager seemed to have no enemies but as Evelyn digs deeper, building her profile, she discovers that maybe people around Haley have more to hide and maybe Hailey had some secrets. And one of those secrets could have gotten Haley killed. As Evelyn races to uncover what could have happened to Haley she realizes that maybe the girl isn’t the only in danger…. perhaps Evelyn is too.

Stalked by Elizabeth Heiter is a crime thriller meets police procedural following police profiler Evelyn Baines. This novel is actually the fourth in the Profiler Series by Elizabeth Heiter, but have no fear, I had no issues with reading this one as a standalone. As a huge fan of Criminal Minds, I was obsessed with the idea of reading a crime thriller whose protagonist is a kick-ass, female profiler with the FBI. I was not left disappointed.

The novel opens with a bang. Haley has already been missing, the FBI has been called in and in a textbook re-sweep of the room, Evelyn finds a notebook tucked in between the bed. She finds it filled with Haley’s handwriting and the words “If you're reading this, I'm already dead… “

This novel has plenty of moving pieces with two stories working at the same time. We have Evelyn’s case, as she profiles Haley’s captor, and then we have Evelyn’s boyfriend, Kyle, who is also working a human trafficking case. At first, the cases seem unrelated but as they begin to uncover inconstancies and coincidences, the connections between each are hard to ignore and soon they are working together to solve the case. I loved how Heiter worked to weave together these two stories; it built up slowly, filling the story with tension and twists. I was on the edge of my seat!

My only complaint with this book was the way the narrative was written; I am a huge fan of multiple POVs and character perspectives, but this one seemed choppy. It jumped around within each chapter without much rhyme or reason and there wasn’t much distinction between when the story was shifting gears. I would have enjoyed it more if it had been more fluid. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story (and the development of Evelyn) enough to look past this and work my way through the narrative technique.

I’d recommend this one to anyone who is looking for a police procedural with lots of layered plot. If you are a fan of detective television shows or Criminal Minds, I feel like you would especially like this novel. I’ll be going back to read the others in her series!

I voluntarily received an e-copy of this book from the publisher (Harlequin), the author (Elizabeth Heiter) and NetGalley; it was my pleasure to provide an honest review.
