Despite this being the fourth (and last) installment in a series, this reads excellently as a stand alone. I appreciate that the author has included a brief synopsis at the beginning to go over the events of her previous book for readers who find that kind of thing helpful. There is also a glossary of terms included since abbreviations are used quite a bit throughout, so I appreciate the extra steps the author has made to make her book feel easier to read.

This has fantastic pacing and excellent build up. We go between Evelyn and her boyfriend Kyle who are both working on separate cases at first, only to find out that they are linked. There are a few side characters who also have interesting parts in the story that's all relevant to the main plot and I found that everything tied together just beautifully. It kept you guessing and had both detective work and action woven together. Both cases and characters were interesting and I found this difficult to put down. This is also not very graphic at all, despite covering some very heinous crimes.

I picked this up at random due to the cover drawing me in, not having read anything by this author before. This certainly made a good impression on me and I would definitely give this author another read should I come across any of her other books.
