“it’s important sometimes to be remembered what you lived for rather than what you died for”
TJ’s books are always stacked with quotable sentences and paragraphs. I could spend all day reading his novels because I know I will get something out of each one of them. At face value you wouldn’t think a story about an alien girl with a bodyguard and an unsuspecting accomplice could hit you where it hurts and remind you of the fragility of humanity. But TJ has a way of constantly melding fantasy and concepts beyond the scope of our usual brain chemistry, with very real characters and very real situations (for the most part). A stunning work of art.

Well…. I did want an easy, feel good, romantic read.
It was that, somewhat. I feel like that was the attempt, at least.
Here are a few things I didn’t like:

1: TJ Klune using children as mouthpieces to push pinterest-isk quotes about life on the reader
2: Nate (the protagonist) who is a journalist but doesn’t know crap, leading to
3: the repetition!!!! (Mostly of Nate saying he doesn’t know) but also in comparison with Klunes other works. There are many many sentences that are being repeated.
4: it was mostly a very boring book and not as much of a romance as I expected (more like: 15% of the book is romance)

For me, the bones beneath my skin shows Klunes biggest weak points: writing action and suspense. Meanwhile it was lacking his biggest strength: writing cozy small town, found family love stories, which are also funny.

Wouldn’t recommend.

TJ Klune can do no wrong in my eyes and this story is a testament to that feeling. I loved all the characters so much (maybe not Randy!) It was heartwarming but also showed the darker side of humanity and government. Explore the stars with Artemis Darth Vader, Alex and Nate.
