“I sometimes think there is nothing more painful than love denied. To love someone you cannot have, to stand beside your heart’s desire and be unable to take them in your arms. A love that cannot be requited. I can think of nothing more painful than that.”

We finally got some info on Jace’s parents! Yay! I love seeing the circle’s inner workings and man have I missed Valentine. Though I still preferred the scene with only Jessa because oh my god do they break my heart.

Oh Jace Herondale, you have a masochist for a mother.

It was interesting to find out more about Jace's parents and seeing young Valentine. I was bored at some points, but the Jem and Tessa (and Will) moments really got me like usual.

Also turns out Céline is a scary bitch, or am I the only one that thinks that ?!

I forced myself to finish it today and it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be with the age difference. It's actually a good story, finding the lost Herondales, getting to know who Jace's mother is, seeing Valentine up close. It was good, but again, I was blinded by something that ended up not even being a big deal (the ages). I couldn't get past the age difference because while 5 years is not that much the fact that she's a minor, and at just at those ages it's not appropriate, it's weird, and it was just really hard to read because of that, I didn't want to read some kind of twisted "love story" where we had to pretend it was okay for a 22 yr old to be with a 17 yr old. I thought he'd be the one pursuing and I just didn't want to read an older man pursuing a teenager so I will say it's better to see that Steven never felt that way about her so he wasn't the problem and he felt the appropriate feelings he was supposed to: thought she was like a sister. Céline had it rough, I get it, but she's out of it and needs SO MUCH HELP. Crazy story.

Also, damn Valentine is GOOD. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's a genius... It's sick (in the bad way) and twisted.

This is the first chapter I didn't cry reading probably because I was too busy being disgusted. But the Jem and Tessa scene was very sweet and sad and did make me want to tear up but I didn't bc as I said I was preoccupied

I loved this book! Getting to know more about Cèline, Jace’s mum, and seeing the Circle and its members through her eyes, and realizing how much of a manipulator Valentine was, finally knowing who’s the lost herondale and finding out it’s a woman and most probably Kit’s mother, made these story truly enjoyable and beautiful!

I had heard that this novella was key to read going into Queen of Air and Darkness and boy were people right! I dont have much to say that won’t spoil things but I really liked Céline. I also enjoyed seeing more from Morgenstern, as well as seeing Stephen Herondale. A solid novella.

The movie and some of the TV show touch on some of the things that happen in this section. I like reading this because it goes into more detail about how Clary and Jocelyn ran from Valentine. Also that they not only knew Magus but that Tessa from The clockwork Angel Series was involved.
