Second in the Guardians paranormal romance series revolving around the Guardians, beings endowed with angelic powers when that human dies giving his or her life to save another. The couple focus in this story is on Colin Ames-Beaumont and Savitri Murray.

My Take

Brook is good. So far, everything of hers that I've picked up is an excellent read. And she sure has one heck of an imagination! In this particular story, Colin is absolutely fascinated by Savi. There is nothing about her that does not intrigue him.

Colin is fascinating for his total obsession with himself and it seems that he has reason for it. He's the most beautiful man on earth and possibly above. Any hobby he takes up, he's brilliant whether it's painting or playing the piano or the violin. Or, as Savi discovers, making love.

I adore Savi for her brilliance. She is so amazingly intelligent, compassionate, and with a great sense of humor. Definitely a woman for the ages. She's why I cried and cried at the end...

The Story

The vampires of San Francisco are scared. Their elders were all killed and they are looking to Colin to step up and lead them. A position in which he has no interest. But one which Lilith and Hugh push at him with excellent reason. For a demon, Dalkiel, is working behind-the-scenes in San Francisco whipping the vampires into a frenzy and threatening Savi. Threatening new vampires. Threatening the continued existence of mankind.

Meanwhile, Savi and Nani are flying back to San Francisco from Mumbai via London. On the same flight that blew up over the Atlantic. The bodies recovered did not display any evidence consistent with an airliner blowing up and the nosferatu Savi comes across on the plane has all her senses on overload. Hey, it's Savi and she does all the right things except that her actions set her fate in motion. A fate that requires Savi spend lots of time with Colin. A man, the vampire she wants.

A wanting destined to end in tragedy??

The Characters

Colin Ames-Beaumont is the second son of an earl and feels fully entitled to the traditional occupations of a second son: drinking, wenching, and hanging out. Nor does he feel that he must conform to the vampire rules of drinking only from consorts, willing humans, and vampires. Instead, he helps himself to anyone he desires. Colin is unique; not only in his own mind either! He was turned over a month using nosferatu blood; anyone who drinks from him dies horribly. A curse he did not take seriously in 1821 has also created a tortured condition for Colin creating an anchor for him with Chaos. Looking in mirrors does not reveal Colin but the hellacious conditions twisting in that plane. Demon Moon reveals why Colin takes refuge in his own admiration and obsession with sartorial elegance.

Savitri "Savi" Murray is an Indian genius with a curiosity that just won't quit. She has written a book and created a popular video and card games based on a story she found on Hugh's computer. Um, she didn't realize it was not fiction at the time. Nani is Savi's grandmother; she runs a restaurant called Auntie's and she wants her Savi married. Safe. Protected.

Lilith, a.k.a., Agent Milton, is the daughter of Lucifer but sloughed daddy off and fell in love with Hugh Castleford, a fallen Guardian. They were instrumental in forcing Lucifer into closing the Gates of Hell for the next 500 years. Today they head up Special Investigations (SI), a paranormal department of Homeland Security. Sir Pup is Lilith's hellhound [I do love Sir Pup!]. Paul and Fia are a vampire and his human until Paul brings her over and they come to work for SI.

Caelum is the otherworld home of the Guardians. Michael is the first Guardian with all Guardian powers. Selah is another Guardian

The Cover

The cover is so not the story. Yes, Colin Ames-Beaumont is blond but he's also obsessed with proper dress. As for the Savi-wanna-be, her skin is the wrong color and I do not remember her having a tattoo on her back. Other than that, the foggy purple background shading the extremely full moon with the hint of bare branches forms the background with a dark-haired woman wearing a most interesting leather mini and lace-up cropped bustier in the arms of a blond wearing skintight riding pants and boots.

I haven't a clue what the title references other than there are demons in the story.

I liked Savi and Colin (most the time- he had occasions of when he was horrible to Savi- to save her from herself- and idiocy) and the plot was interesting, it did get a bit slow in places and felt like Savi and Colin's relationship was going in circles.

Colin and Savi's relationship is frustrating though- something happened in Caelem but we're not told what for so long (we get a few flashbacks) and whatever happened is driving Savi's actions, it just makes it annoying trying to understand what's happening with only half the information. They are also both convinced that any relationship is doomed so are skirting around each other, pushing away and then bouncing back.

My biggest problem with Demon Moon though was the writing style, there's a lot of POV jumping and time seems to skip forward in places with no indication of it being a new scene so I found myself rereading paragraphs trying to figure out where the jump was. It was just a bit confusing.

I want to enjoy this series more than I currently am, the combination of Colin and Savi is vibrant and their sex scenes are absolutely scorching, however I'm having a lot of troubles with the pacing of the Demon series.

So much action, and for once I'm craving a bit of exposition and less text all at the same time. Apart from the core 4 I haven't really engaged with any of the other characters so I'm interested while at the same time slightly dreading the next instalments of this series.

I can't believe that I waited so long to read this book. I loved it. The story is so touching and at the same time sad, funny, and action filled. Anyone who is a fan of paranormal romance is going to love this. Colin and Savi are wonderfully rich characters whose interaction drives the story along. I am downloading the next in the series now.

You can feel the amount of love and care the author has poured into this book. A part of this book is basically a love letter to south asian culture, and it is just done so well. My love for this author is somehow more than it was before just for that. I imagine there were not many woc badass heroines being published at the time this was released. (Not that there's an overly large number now, but even including current publications, not many done this well.

Okay so I was confused at some parts and that is partially due to my impatience in wanting to find out what happens, and the pacing could probably be better...but that's basically it. Every other aspect of the book is commendable. There's so many layers here, of backstory, of the characters, of the world building. The descriptions alone...and I think I have said this before but this is such an underrated thing. Well established authors, many that I enjoy, idk why, maybe bc its easy or maybe the publisher required it, but they find a successful formula to writing a book and then never deviate from it. Recycled plots, recycled twists, the same point at which to expect conflict or a kiss. The same characters and character traits recycled and it's kind of sad?

I have read at least 8 books by this author, and not a single one has repetitive anything. Each and every single time, the characters are so uniquely different from before, and what's more amazing is that despite being so vastly different you find yourself falling for them and rooting for them anyway. And not only are the characters different but so are the obstacles they face, as is the plot in each book. This author is not out to make money off of a basic formula though she easily could.

Anyways I adored Savi and her brilliance, and her superpowered brain, and her love of family and her quickness to forgive. She was so freaking relatable I didn't know what to do with myself. And only Meljean Brook could make me love Colin as much as i did. Their journey was amazing and I almost feared they wouldn't get their hea. Seeing multiple glimpses of hugh and lillith also made me happy. Solid 4 stars

The characters are attractive. Savi is smart, curious and refuses to brood. I appreciate that. Colin is complex, insecure and arrogant, with a heart of gold that he'd rather hide. Also, handsome, very handsome. Their attraction is interesting. Brook's worldbuidling is also interesting, and complex. I like books or series' with big story arcs, this is a part of the epic - though, in this case the complexity is often confusing. Not just the world building , but even in the action from scene to scene.
A good story - and with some adjustments it could have been really really good.

This was very interesting, but also hard to follow in places. I think I might have rated it higher if I had reread Hugh and Lilith's book.
