This was much better than the first. I felt much more connected and involved with the characters. I just really love Rick Riordan's writing style. Although this is my least favorite of his series. I love Sadie, she made me laugh a lot and I just have a soft spot for her. Carter is okay. I don't mind him but I much prefer Sadie. The plot that we follow in this installment was very high stakes and that helped me feel much more involved. I'm having an okay time with this series so I'm looking forward to seeing how this will end.

This series is fun to read, but still can't hold a candle to Percy Jackson and the continuing adventures of Camp Half-Blood. When I picked up The Lost Hero, I just got this rush of excitement to be back in a world that I love. When I picked up this one, I was just kinda like, "Well, here we go again." I don't know if it's because Riordan has done more world-building with the other series, or if my own familiarity with Roman/Greek mythology has more of an appeal (though I really enjoy learning more about Egyptian mythology). I even like Sadie and Carter as characters. So I'm not sure why this series doesn't grip me like the other. But I'll keep reading it because it is always an enjoyable distraction. I'd really like a book where the Kane kids get to spend some more time in the Brooklyn House with Khufu and Phillip. I kind of missed that in this book.

Throne of Fire picks up shortly after Red Pyramid ended. Carter and Sadie Kane have discovered that Apophis, the God of Chaos, is very close to breaking out of his prison. That prison will be at it's weakest on the Spring Equinox which is only 4 days away. Carter and Sadie think the only way to save the world as they know it is to awaken Ra...which no one has seen in thousands of years. The other Egyptian Gods don't think Ra is the way to go.

This was pretty standard Rick Riordan fare. Nothing terribly new or exciting. I do enjoy seeing what Gods Riordan will include and how and where they take the story. Riordan does do an incredible amount of research for his books. They are a pretty fun ride.
