I may have read this book before but I did not remember any of it. I liked this one about as much as the first one, but I do think the concept of a recording was done a little bit better in this one. One of my main problems with the first one was that there weren’t really any important side characters except for Zia Anubis and Bast, and Zia disappeared at the end of the first book. The concept of the initiates was great because it introduced more characters as well as developing the ones that already existed. The writing was still pretty childish, but I do think it works with the way the story is presented.

The amount of times I thought about “Moon Knight” while reading this is truly embarrassing

3.5/5 stars

This was so fun! I love Carter and Sadie as characters and narrators, they're so sassy and fun and the best. However, the story and the conflict just hasn't been grabbing my attention. It's fun but not amazing? Would still recommend for fans of Riordan. It's not as good as his other stuff but it's still super fun!

I think I liked the first book a bit more because it was a really solid intro into the world. However I really love the new characters especially Bas and Walt.

Jag har kommit in i böckerna nu och det är ju inte lika bra som Percy Jackson men jqg gillar det ändå :)

Grad school application: *exists*

1) nursing homes. Wow. I mean WOW. In hindsight, this allegory totally makes sense and I probably *should* have seen it coming but I TOTALLY DIDN’T. A place for gods who are forgotten but cannot die? The nursing home is the PERFECT spot for that. Liminal space vibes and everything. And vaguely reminds me of the ofrenda situation in Coco so bonus points for that.

2) Desjardins des guardin’. Spoiler here: I never loved Desjardins but I never hated him quite so much as other villains. I liked his redemption arc! Good! He just wanted to do what was right and I respect that. A servant of Ma’at.

3) Zia and imperfect destinies. As much as I wished Zia and Carter would instantly hit it off and pick up where the shabti had left off, I think the route taken was ultimately a better choice. Zia and Carter have to rebuild their relationship from scratch. (Can you say “Percabeth”?) That’s more real and it gives the audience a whole new start to the story. Keeps the pace flowing.

4) Seafaring. Honestly what the heck. WHY am I getting so much seafaring content all at once. I’m not even seeking it out, it just keeps slapping me in the face. Anyway, seafaring content here is great. Who doesn’t love ships???

5) the Houses. Yknow what these books remind me of? Deep time artistic renditions. The concept and archaeology exists in scientific literature, and artists take all the info and compile it into an image, a snapshot, or a certain period of time. (God I love Carboniferous renditions.) RR is doing the same but with WORDS and OH how I love it. Michael Crichton but make it YA Egyptology/Greco-Roman anthropology. MY NICHE. The houses themselves epitomize this. RR took the houses and created entire worlds for them with vivid imagery. The best!

1) I miss Camp Half Blood. :(

Even with a truce between the god of evil Set and the Kane brothers, they still need to face the fact that the god of chaos Apophis is about to break free and swallow the world. They plan to bring back Ra, the god of the sun, even is the other Gods and the magicians oppose them. Horus has given Carter a clue to how to bring back Ra from retirement, so they start the journey as always: being chased by crazy egyptians gods, evil magicians plotting with demons, and gods that want to over run them.

I really liked Jaz and Walt. I REALLY wanted to know what was the matter with Walt, because I was rooting for him. Don't get me wrong, I like Anubis, but I don't see how he could date Sadie.
I still like Carter, and Bast, and I loved some new characters: Bes and Tawaret were awesome to imagine and super fun to read.
Sadie is just as annoying and selfish as ever, and Carter's whole Zia thing felt a bit selfish too. But I guess she has a bigger part to play in the next book. I hope she develops a bit more as a character, because I liked her in the first book.
I was really tempted to stop reading after book one, but I like some characters enough to want to know how they develop. I just wish I didn't have to read Sadie's chapters. And that there were more adults that made sense.

I liked this book better than the first one. Still a little too similar to Percy Jackson for my taste, but well written overall.

fast paced. great to listen to while driving and waiting in lines. :)

this is really a 3.5/5 im very meh on the kanes but i like the Egyptian magic system
