from the start this book had me hooked and I was reading it 100+ pages at a time
the story was even more interesting than the first! one thing I’ve noticed about the kane chronicles is that it brings in stereotypical, easy to guess story lines and then totally changes them (eg book 1 when we including the main characters thought julius kane was trying to bring back his wife but it turns out he was just freeing the gods) which is always so interesting
I loved all the new editions like walt and the other kids! as well as menshivok who I’d love to learn more about even if he’s dead now + bes who in really rooting for !!!
this book also managed to make me love the characters we’d already been introduced to such as desjardins who I genuinely felt bad for and was rooting for towards the end. additionally, I felt that in the last book I felt more connected to carter than sadie but in this book it’s the opposite. from the very first sadie pov chapter she became one of my favourite characters in the rr universe !! her refusing to change her plans on her birthday for their quest is so realistic of a 13 year old girl and I was like yk what girl yeah fair enough
i hope we see more bast in the next book I really missed her this book and I swear she’s always going through it (‘dying’ countless times and then vanishing for half the story)
i’m also noticing a theme of cheif lectors dying in each book (iskander in book 1 and desjardins in book 2) so I’m really praying for amos kane here

Initial thoughts:
1. Two words...ACTION PACKED. And very FAST PACED!
2. Riordan introduced you too some new AMAZING characters! Bes, Vladamir Menshikov and Ra. (Just to name a few.)
3. Full of banter, and sarcasm. Quite FUNNY!
4. The plot was pretty crazy, never know whats gonna happen next. (I just so happen to like that in books...)
5. Favorite character in The Throne of Fire... Bes. HANDS DOWN.
6. Over all, if your looking for an action packed, fast paced, funny, full of STRANGE OLD Egyptian gods and crying hippos?! Then this is the book for you. :D

i don't understand mr rick's obsession with giving sadie that weird fucking love plot line. i kept censoring it all while reading it to my siblings bc truly what in fresh hell is all that for? sadie and walt is wtv, in a just world sadie would have no romance plot line since she's literally a 13 year old child but at least walt is around her age. but ANUBIS???? tf is wrong w u rick what possessed u to do such a thing? absolute freak behavior it must be said.
Solid second book in the series.
Things have continued apace for Carter and Sadie and it was nice to see a few more faces to flesh out their Nome. I like how responsible Carter is, a trait that is somewhat unusual for teen boys in stories. I can seem him growing into a stable man, which is a nice thought. Sadie is brave, though she is a little too...too something for me. Firey, I think, but she's a good character that livens up the story at times.
I still love the sibling bond between Carter and Sadie and it's wonderful to see it getting even stronger here. I like the racial diversity and how Riordan took a major step away from the predominately white world of the first Percy Jackson series. I also like how his writing has improved. It's wonderful to see.
Definitely well on my way to preferring the Kane Chronicles over Percy Jackson.

The book got better the more I read.
As expected from Rick Riordan, the book was beautifully written, the plot was interesting and it kept me wanting for more... :)
What I liked:
1) the way Riordan used Egyptian mythology as the backbone of the whole story
2) the plot of the story
3) the vivid descriptions of the Duat and the other places that Carter Sadie went to
4) the way Sadie and Carter narrated what was happening
5) the characters
What I didn't like:
I really can't find anything to dislike...
