The most generic story to come out of the early 2010’s fantasy YA boom and tropification of current day romantasy. Saeris is a dime a dozen FMC whose personality consists of lackluster snark & being right because she is the MC.
This story feels like Feyre and Rhys were thrown into the vampire portion of Empire of the Vampire except with none of the finesse of storytelling. The antagonists were evil just cause. No other female character had depth and most just served to make the men look better, and the story romanticizes partner abuse for the sake of mates.

If I hadn’t spent money on it, I would have DNFed.

Also, I can’t look past the egregious audacity of the author to give an asshole like Fisher Gandalf’s ‘look to the east on the fifth day’ backstory.

4.25 stars. Not because it was well written etc, I actually think the writing was generally pretty poor. Really annoyed me so much for first half of book, but actual 2nd half of story (minus writing style) made up for it.

Only received this score because how much FUN I had at the time of reading this. NOT based off of how good a book it is.

Absolutely stunning fantasy story. A blend of Fae, vampires, humans...a found family & deep fate love mates.
Can't wait for book 2 in the series.

Absolutely loved the development of this relationship throughout the book. FMC has no idea he likes her?? Sign me up!
However, I'm angry at the lack of cliffhanger. Why such a nice, we're in a good place, ending? Make me want the next book, please. Like if I never get to the next one, I'd probably be fine and that's annoying.

It's been quite a long time since a book had me feeling this way and it was such an amazing read.

The world building was rich and detailed, the characters were loveable - some making me laugh, others making me want to detonate their hand off. The plot was intriguing and constantly had me guessing what was going to happen next. Some theories of mine revealed to be true, while others where flat out wrong and I was hit with plot twist after plot twist.

I fell inlove with this book hard and I can't wait to dive back into Yvelia when the next book releases.
