The beginning was epic world building but then it slowed down and it took me a bit to get back into the story. But, it was a great story, very epic fantasy. Gosh I want to leave a longer review but I stayed up till 2am to finish reading it!
If your on the fence about it or feel it slows down after act 1, I 100% recommended that you pick it up and keep reading.

In the beginning and until like 3/4 of the way through the book I found Saeris annoying. She really just searched for reasons to be pissed off at Kingfisher and a lot of them were dumb. Like, "he answered my question, how dare he!" type stuff. Like girly, you know he's snarky why are you surprised?
I did like the found family aspect of the book, the recurring side characters were fleshed out pretty well and I'm looking forward to seeing them in the next book. Kingfisher was also great, even if he was snarky to Saeris. Saeris was snarky back though, so I think it all evens out. This book is technically enemies to lovers but I never really felt like Saeris and Kingfisher were truly enemies at any point. It felt more like frenemies to lovers to me, because it was obvious from the beginning that Fisher cared about Saeris a lot even if he didn't want to admit it.
