When people asked me what my favorite book of 2020 was so far, I always answered The Raven and the Dove, a book I already read in January, but no other book has left the same impression on me so far. I was therefore really looking forward to the Hunter and the Mage and I was happy that I was allowed to read an ARC of this book. So, yesterday morning I opened the book and started. Worst idea ever. I had some issues putting the book away to get to work. However, today was my day off so my first thing on the to do list was finishing this masterpiece.

This book truly is a masterpiece. This will be a four book series and quite often you see then that the second and third book are not as exciting as the first. Not in this case. This book introduces us once more to a new part of the world and therefore feels more like an extra first book. Our characters are thrown into the one part of the world they knew nothing about and together with them we get to know the people living there and the challenges those people face.

There is also not one moment in this book that the plot is dragging. It’s constantly moving forward, going somewhere. The characters are the true stars, following their journeys and learning their lessons, but everything we read, everything we see, every scene we witness is important. Eventually, when we reach the ending of the book and a lot of things come together I just read faster and faster because I had to know how it ended.

Another thing Davis does amazingly well is the romance. The story is based on the legend of Tristan and Isolde and the first book was already heartbreaking, but the waiting and the building of the suspense in this book is even better. There are so many moments I was holding my breath, so many moments I was hoping and praying and wishing. Sometimes I eventually got what I wanted, sometimes I had to wait a little bit longer.

So, when does book three come out? I WANT AND NEED MORE! (I most of all need more Xander! As a girl with a disability his journey really speaks to me! I can’t wait to see where it will end!)

If my review convinced you of the awesomeness of this book (trust me, it’s a great epic fantasy romance!) make sure to get book one (if you didn’t already) and pre-order book two. Davis has a lovely pre-order action where you can get goodies! If you’re in America you’re lucky and will get them printed, but if you’re like me far away you will get digital copies to print yourself!

"I am no a Monster"

This book was "chefs kiss". A really fun read that I think was better then the last book.

We start with Rafe and Lyana apart, watching them grow on their own in their new roles. Lyana dealing with the prophecy and being passed on to another king that isn't the man she wants and learning more about her power.

I like that they were apart almost all the book it made the reunion (their short reunion) more satisfying and I can't wait to see them together again and honestly I just really love them together. Dated lovers aren't always my thing but I will make an exception.

Xander and Cassi had an opposing story arch almost where we saw them come together and work more as a team. Xander finding his strength and courage and Cassi dealing with the consequences of her actions and coming to terms with the truth. I like them as a couple as well, it was cute.

Malek, as a villian is interesting. The best Villian are always the ones that feel justified in their actions. Probably should have focused less on making Lyana even more badass, huh.

The Dragon hunter crew were a lot of fun and I enjoyed them. I loved Brighty and her backstory felt so sad but kind of bittersweet.

And the last 25% of the book was so good. The Rafe cliffhanger was super frustrating so good job.

They were well worth buying the hardcovers and now I am going to wait Patiently for the third one to come out on hardback so I can continue.

Would recommend. Loved it.

Love my birds, dragons and mages!!

Oh my gosh! Lyana, I know you made things clear with Xander about your feelings for Rafe, but what are you lot doing?!!!! *smacks forehead* I know the Ravens need leadership, but you both need to think this through.

Cassie can have the hottest seat in hell. I do NOT care for her. Nothing and I mean NOTHING she does can make her redeemable to me. Malek can join her.

Rafe, oh Rafe. Please let this man catch a break. I need him and Lyana to have their HEA already. Have they not suffered enough?! Especially Rafe! Let that man be happy with Ana. Jumping right into the next book because all of this suspense is bad for my health.

**Actual rating is 4.8/5**
I would have given this book five stars, but that is mainly because while it was excellent, the start was pretty slow, though it did pick up IMMEDIATELY from where the first book left off. This book was an emotional rollercoaster that opened the reader to a new world underneath the mist that many believed was a fiery abyss. If you have already read The Raven and The Dove and are wondering if you should continue the series (not sure why you would be wondering that), go ahead and add it to your cart and get this book. Again it is a slow start but it is absolutely worth it in the end.

I have received this ARC from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

OMG! Guys! Ever since I finished the previous book, [b:The Raven and the Dove|36505323|The Raven and the Dove (The Raven and the Dove, #1)|Kaitlyn Davis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1572618152l/36505323._SY75_.jpg|58223294], I am been freaking out to dive into this one. Luckily for me, I got the book! That being said, it did take me some time to finally dive into it. I would love to blame work full on because of how busy life can get.. but sadly, I am part to blame as well. There's just way too many books that I want to read and I will never find the time to do so.

Thankfully, I finally got to dive into this wonderful and beautiful book over the weekend. I mean what better way to snuggle up to a book while cooking something that takes an hour or so? Spoiler alert: the creole I made and this book were both fantastic!

Just going to start off with this book didn't disappoint one freaking bit. I can honestly say I wasn't worried one bit for that to happen because the first book was that good. Even though I do love and enjoy all the characters from the first book, this one introduced us to some pretty awesome people. At the moment, I can't even tell you if I have a favorite or not.

Other than claiming a favorite, I can definitely state that I still despise King Malek. He is just completely frustrating and annoying to deal with - and ugh he just needs to go. Besides him, I feel like I have so many ships right now and I really want them to succeed! I also really enjoyed all the twists and turns in this one because everything just had me second guessing everyone. Of course, we do learn a bit more about some people and things towards the end.

I can gladly say that I'm beyond excited for the next book. If there is even a next book because it should definitely become a thing. I need more from everyone!

I LOVED the first book and was so excited to receive an e-ARC of the second installment. Thank you to Author Kaitlyn Davis for this book via BookFunnel.

This one took me a bit. I found the beginning slow, but then I hit the 50% mark and man was I glad I stuck with it. It was exciting to connect more with some additional characters and I have to say the world that Kaitlyn has built is just incredible! The magic system is perfection and I cannot wait to continue to see these worlds collide. I just want happy endings for my characters!

If you haven't read the first book, now would be a great time to pick it up.

“A sword was just a sword without a warrior to wield it. Power, by itself, was useless. But with her heart at the helm, no victory was out of reach.”

3.5⭐️

I enjoyed the second instalment of this avian fantasy series quite a lot, though not as much as the first. This book has a slightly darker tone and the characters are separated while dealing with the consequences of the previous story, something which is always hard to read about. Nevertheless, I liked reading about the development of each character in addition to the magic system.

Xander is still my favourite character, partly because he's not a great warrior and this isn't portrayed negatively, and partly because he's a sweetheart. I love Lyana and Rafe just as much as before, and all I want is for them to be happy and safe. Cassi grew on me throughout the novel, and all the hatred I had for her at the end of the last book has been transferred to Malek, who annoyed me the whole time, as much as I did understand his motivations.

The Hunter and the Mage ends at a point which intrigues me greatly as to the fate of all the characters, as well as the world below and above the mist. I'm very excited to see where the story takes us next.

Thank you to the author, Kaitlyn Davis, for providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
