This story is not about a red Pony. If you expect to read a cute child's book do not read this. If you want to give this book to a child, well please do. Another amazing Steinbeck book. As I'm going through his early work I notice how his writing started to evolve and how he ended up writing the masterpieces that followed.

meh.

This collection is four chapters of Jody Tiflin's life on a family ranch. The book is a good example of Steinbeck's prose, which I always enjoy. It's fairly direct, but with enough interesting details to keep my attention and for me to appreciate. The character studies are interesting, especially the rather fickle whims and fancies of a young Jody, and the wistfulness of his grandfather.

Only giving it 3 stars for Steinbeck's creative use of language. Definitely not his best work and left me completely confused as to the whole point of the book.
