NINJA NUUUNSSS. PIRATE NUUUUUNNNSSS. LOL it strived too hard to be funny but all in all I kinda liked it. Will reflect over getting the second volume or not for two whole days. Plot is okay, something to think about. I guess. Kinda moved really fast tho.

It's appropriate that I'm reading both Archer & Armstrong and Preacher this month for my comics discussion group, as both deal with subverted, violent fictional mythos in contrast to fundamentalist Christian subculture. And I have to say, from my memory of Preacher so many years ago, this Valiant book is at least doing a better, more subtle job of it.

There were a few annoying things in this book, like, for example: "The Sect" is probably the worst name for a worldwide ultimate evil secret society that has infiltrated every other secret society. They'd might as well be called The Subcommittee or The Unorthodox Group, which is basically what sect means. I had to remind myself that this is slightly updated Indiana Jones-style humor, so when they're putting together some alien artifact using a piece called The Sphere, which is not at all spherical, I was able to get over it and just try having fun.

Overall, there are enough cliches avoided within the genre of religious cult sci-fi domination schemes that I'd like to read the subsequent volumes. But I'm not going to be bumping to the top of my To-Read queue anytime soon.

Solid art, interesting premise, but the dialogue too heavily relies on quippy banter during the many fight sequences and the politics (which I agree with) are too obviously signaled, even heavy-handed at times.

This is probably my last Archer & Armstrong. The comedy sporadic but the story is just unsatisfying to me now.

1. Hoje é Terça.
