Every story in this book was memorable, well-written, and unique. I might actually try to do a real review in the coming weeks. :)

This collection was so diverse. It was so finely detailed and melancholic.
My favorites were: “Names for Water,” “At the Mouth of the River of Bees,” “Wolf Trapping” and “The Man Who Bridged the Mist.”

A series of very, very well written emotional roller coasters.

Kij Johnson is a spectacular writer and these stories were delightful and strange. This was a slow read for me, since I found I needed to sit with each story for a while before moving on to the next one, but it made for excellent intercalary reading between the other things I’ve been reading. If short stories aren’t your jam, The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe is a longer read and is also excellent.

Wild variations in quality. Johnson can write inspired work and can keep you engaged with great storytelling in this collection, but it almost seems like an accident when you consider the bulk of these stories. I think she will fall into that "I'll definitely read a story from her it's recommended to me" category going forward.
