Holiday on Ice, Play by Play #8.5, by Jaci Burton
Grade: C

“Let’s just say love didn’t work so well for me the first time I tried it.”

The Play by Play series was once a must read for me but the last few books haven't done it for me but before giving up I really wanted to see what happened between Trick and Stella who we met in Melting the Ice book #7. I liked that these both Trick and Stella didn’t seem interested in a relationship so I was excited to see how they would go from friends with benefits to a full blown relationship especially in a novella.

As with most novellas I am always left wanting more from the characters and feel that their story is rushed which happened for Trick and Stella. I loved Trick and he made this book while I found Stella to be annoying. I understood Stella’s issues but I feel that we have heard the same old story of heartbreak so many other times and she just wasn’t fun to read about. I would like to think that if this was a full book Stella would be given enough time to redeem herself but unfortunately that isn’t the case.

Sadly Trick wasn’t enough to make the book amazing but it was fun, cute and very festive for the holiday season. Not sure if I will keep reading the series and I wasn’t too excited about the characters in book nine at the back of the book. Still love Jaci Burton but I think my time with the series has run its course.

This was just alright. The story had a weak backbone but a strong heart. Simply put, it was a romance novella. There isn't much difference between most of them, and there's hardly ever anything special about one, and this book definitely fell into the norm here.

This was a quick, sweet read. I love holiday themed novellas. There was definitely insta-love, which is annoying, but I kept reminding myself that they had dated before.
I love this series and an usually pretty happy with any books in this world the author wants to give us.

Not my favorite, but I'm a sucker for a romance novel (or novella) - especially ones about the holidays and/or my one of my fave sports - hockey!

I liked the main male character - Trevor, but found the main female character to be a bit annoying.

Really enjoyed this novella! Cute, fun, steamy and sexy. Enjoyed the premise and the characters. They had great chemistry and while there was lots of sexiness and steam, it doesn't take away from the story or used as a filler!
