This was a great Christmas story. The characters were likable and the flow was good, even though this was a quick read. My only problem was Betty was a little to quick to jump to conclusions and at times was too judgmental. Overall though, this was a good read.

I loved the cover of this book at first sight and just had to have it. I must say the inside of the book is just as sweet as the cover. Well written and under 200 pages this is the perfect book to sit down and destress with during the busy holiday time.
The characters in the book are everyday people with everyday problems. If written well (and this one was) books like this appeal to me because I like books about regular people who have problems. I don't always want to read about people with tons of money, perfect looks, and the perfect lives.
The story is told in a way that makes you feel a part of the neighborhood and keeps you interested until the end. This is definitely a book for the keeper shelf and one that could quite possibly be a tradition to read every Christmas.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy Christmas-themed books, dog lovers and fans of Debbie Macomber.

I read 'The Christmas Shoppe' last year and loved it, so I was excited to try another Melody Carlson Christmas book this year. While I didn't like this book as much as 'The Christmas Shoppe', it was still good and had a great message.

4.5⭐️ - Heartwarming, Christmassy read. It definitely gives you all the feels. Even disliking Betty in some parts and wondering why she would make some of the decisions she makes. In the end, she found the spirit of Christmas and that, after all, was the purpose of the book.. and of Ralphie! I'm sorry this was on my TBR for so long. Loved it! PS: I am all for Avery & Jack! Future romance maybe? In my mind, I say yes! ;)

Nice gentle read. It's short and I read it in like 3 days. Nice for the holiday season.

I'm not a dog person so I was uncertain if I would enjoy The Christmas Dog; I am happy to report this book was enjoyable. Betty is alone and becoming a grumpy ole woman until three unexpected gifts come into her life: a new neighbor, an unexpected guest and a stray dog. I enjoyed the way that Melody Carlson brought all the characters into the plot and connected their lives. A delightful read even outside of the Christmas season.

This wasn’t a favorite. It was an okay little story but the assumptions made about Jack and the way Avery’s parents acted just got on my nerves. Felt way too extreme and hard to like the characters
