Okay, this wasn't the most deep and intricate fantasy novel ever, but Man, did I have fun reading this.
I think this is the most fast-paced book I've read in a while. The characters were fun, and the dragons were an integral part of the story. It had a lot of How to train your dragon - vibes, and as soon as I realised that I couldn't let go of all the similarities.
What I liked about the worldbuilding and characterization of this one was mainly how important storytelling was to the whole book. It opens with a beautiful sentence, which immediately grabbed my attention. I love how we got to hear some of the stories too throughout the book, and how they were connected to what Asha, our main character, experienced herself. She wasn't a perfect "I'm not like other girls" character, which I was happily surprised with. She was flawed, had prejudices and wasn't always right. She was powerful and courageous, but it didn't feel forced. I liked how all the characters showed emotion and didn't feel like a cut-out stereotype.
That said, as I said before, this isn't the fantasy book with the most depth. Everything happens a little too easily, and the plot twists were kind of predictable in my opinion. And even though it ended off in a way that set up the plot for the sequel, I'm not too invested in it, so I don't know if I want to read the second and third book in the series.
I wish we got to see even more details of the world, how the politics were (they were a little too simple for my taste), and I wanted more of the stories! It didn't hinder my enjoyment too much though, this was a really fun read.

The author mentions in the acknowledgments that she started writing this book at 17... and it really shows. There’s just no substance to this story, and I wasn’t connected to the characters, world, or plot. It all just felt shallow and like they were just going through the motions of a fantasy story. Thank goodness this was a quick read, because there just wasn’t anything to it.

The Last Namsara 3⭐️. Spoiler Free
I would like to preface by saying this was a good book with an awesome storyline and plot. My 3 star ratings do not mean it was a bad book or that I didn’t enjoy it.
This book follows Asha a dragon slayer as she finds out things about her family, kingdom, and dragons. Along the way she gets involved with her Betrothed’s slave. The tension between them was great and I really loved where the storyline went.
The take on dragons was cool, but it felt like they were extremely easy to kill. I need a size reference on these dragons because they seem like they’re a lot smaller than dragons from my other books.
The story propels you along really fast and is super entertaining, very unique from the classic fantasy books that are really popular right now. If you are looking for something different give this a try!
The main reason I am giving this a 3 is because I didn’t love the writing style. Transition between the chapters were super confusing to me, I felt like there were important conversations and scenes we didn’t get to see between chapters that would have made the book flow a little more seamlessly. This was the authors first book and I just finished her newest one before this which was flawlessly written. I really think she has just grown as an author since this first book.
There is no cliffhanger at all, it actually ends on a really amazing note and could definitely be read as a standalone book. I will definitely be continuing the series though and seeing where she takes the story!

Só li os dois primeiros livros da trilogia Ishari e achei este o melhor.
Iniciei a leitura sem muitas expectativas quanto a história, mas o ritmo do livro o tornou cativante e a história mostrou-se mais intrigante.

it read a bit like "the winner's curse" to me, but any time you give me some dragon slayers ... i can get behind that.
