This book was so beautiful and I expected the ending, but I still didn't want it to happen.

It was a really good read. Kinda sad and the lack of the girl's perspective was kind of disappointing, but otherwise a really good read.

It was a random encounter with this book and I fell in love with it. Can’t wait to get my hands on the physical version soon! I read it on my phone when it was just newly published.

Update! Got the paperback and rereading it for the second time. Yay!

Update again. I think this book will forever bring me to tears. I know it’s fiction, but Alex and Charlie, you will both always be in my heart.
fast-paced

The second half had a much stronger emotional punch than the first - not just because of subject matter but the early parts of the book were a little too "tell, don't show".

No words❤️

I enjoyed the audio version of this book. Charlie a Jewish French Parisian girl becomes a pen pal with a Japanese American. Alex is less than thrilled that his pen pal turns out to be a girl. However they continue to be penpals through the beginning of World War II. While Charlie must deal with the hatred and discrimination of the nazis Alex must also deal with the internment camps and hatred toward Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor. Alex decides to join the 442nd to help his father and possibly find his friend Charlie. He learns quickly the harsh realities of war and who you can rely on.
