I've always loved the movie, so I was glad to find the book was just as entertaining. I imagine I would have found the ending too ambiguous though, without the knowledge/ follow-up of the sequels.

I also seriously disliked the character Lex in the book. She's the whinier, less intelligent, not-as useful-foil to her brother who knows all about dinosaurs! and computers! who doesn't panic as much!

I've been reading a lot of lesfic romance lately. I knew it was time for a break when I couldn't keep the characters or angsty stories straight. I had picked up Jurassic Park a few months ago during one of Audible's 2-for-1 sales but hadn't gotten around to it but this seemed like the perfect opportunity to cleanse my reading palate.

Like just about everyone else, I've seen the movie based on the book several times. I never really feel like watching it but once it gets going, it's intense and action packed and I end up loving it. The book was sort of like that but filled with much more detail. Detail and saying the same things several times for no apparent reason. But I still had a good time listening to the book. I really enjoyed the differences in how the story unfolded - although it's been years since I've seen the film and there might have been less left out than I remember...

Either way, I definitely recommend reading the book. You can always skim over the science stuff until you get to the awesome dino stuff.

Maybe I'm a tad biased cause I love the movie, but I did not enjoy the book as much as I thought I did.

While definitely more gore and attemptful horror which I enjoyed I felt the book dragged a bit.

The world building went on for a bit too long for me and I felt some scenes were unnecessary and didn't really help move the story along.

Honestly wasn't a fan of the ending and the whole raptor cave thing, just felt a bit lackluster.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to read this! It's almost the perfect book. The writing style is immersive and engaging, and the subject matter is obviously well-researched. I particularly liked the choices Chrichton made about what scenes to include, especially in the beginning to build exposition and suspense. Every detail felt important and necessary, but not in a way that was too on-the-nose. There wasn't much character development, unfortunately, but that's about what I expected from a thriller that's treated like an epic. I look forward to reading the sequel, and watching the movie for the first time in, like, a decade.
