8.07 out of 10. There were a few issues from this book. I feel like there were some contradictions and miscommunication, which could get frustrating. However, you are dealing with Faeries in this book. They are, in myth and apparently in this, typically cunning and vile and naturally misleading and just strange all together. So, it would make sense that dealing with even a 'good' one would leave you confused and frustrated. With that being said, the rest of the story was fun and intriguing. I feel like Stockholm and trauma were nicely represented in this with the unsettling truth that sometimes people aren't thankful that you have saved them. It took a little while for me to enjoy Fortuna as a character and I still don't know if I'm all the way there yet. She isn't bad at all, I like her, I just find myself being even more interested in the other characters. I have so, so many questions and a few theories that I could be very wrong on, but that's okay. I can't wait to continue with the series and may end up starting Restless Slumber straight away.

i regret reading this book.
the beginning was interesting, but soon everything was all over the place, there were so many unanswered questions.
the beginnig was way too fast. the author could've easily added 50 Pages, then it wouldn't have been so rushed
there was no reason why the prince choose her. like how tf does he know who she is?
I hated that dream guy.
why was the seelie court suddenly the big plottwist? It was never mentioned and tbh i thought Laurie was gay.

If you are wondering what you could liken this book to… in its simplistic form it is ACOTAR mixed with These Hallow Vows mixed with Twilight.

Which in short there are quite a few things going on but somehow it just makes sense.

The world building is easy to follow and the pacing is quick without giving whiplash.

I would very much recommend for a newer romantasy reader

I was expecting a bit more from this book. It wasn’t the dark fantasy I thought it would be. I felt like lots of things were skimmed over, and there wasn’t a single full out conversation between two characters. I’m sure it was done on purpose to leave mystery for the rest of the series, but it left me not connecting with the book.

I kinda feel a little guilty that I waited so long to read this book. The author was so kind to offer me a free e-copy so I could write this review. And after reading the blurb I couldn't say no. But the book has been on my e-reader for quite a few weeks. However, yesterday I was totally in the mood for this book and today I literally devoured it!

What a lovely story and what an amazing plot! Sutton was absolutely right that this totally would be up my ally. The book is incredibly plot heavy. Everything that happens, happens for a reason and is leading somewhere. And even though Fortuna is forming relationships and getting to know people, that's absolutely not the centre of this story. There is more going on, a lot more going on and it's interesting from the very first page until way past the last page.

That's partly because the world building is incredibly vivid without there being huge info dumps. Things are explained along the way, mostly even shown instead of told and even though the world is quite complex and rich, it never becomes confusing or hard to understand. The atmosphere in this book also really helps to feel the world, literally. And even though most of this book takes place in the Unseelie Court, we also got a good impression of our world and society and what it looks like in this story.

On top of that, this book is filled with amazing, complicated and mostly morally gray characters. Not one character is a total good guy or a total bad guy and that kept me as a reader constantly on my toes. It was hard to know who to trust and who to distrust and who to believe and who not to believe and I think that even now, at the end of book one, there are so many questions still unanswered! I will certainly read the second book too!

If you're looking for a slow burn, plot-heavy and well thought out portal fantasy, this is a must read!

Only got more interesting, kind of like a downward hill, at 50%. As an aspiring indie writer I won't blatantly bash another author. Interesting side characters and a good small changes to another Faerie story :)
