This was fine. Not a lot happens, and the character development is simply worse than the previous books. Still curious to see how this story ends, but haven’t enjoyed the more recent books as much as the first few.

This is the first half of the 5th book called "The Sorcerer" which the publisher had split the original book into two volumes without consulting with the author. Because of this, this book does not have an ending. The first page of Volume II is literally the next page after the last of volume I.
That's why it seems almost unfair to judge a book at its halfway point. But I will admit this first volume was slow because it focuses too much on the mundane domestics and other happenings. And although the author has stated that he only writes historical fiction, not fantasy, this comes close to touching on the fantastical. Is having foreknowledge/premonitions" fantastical"?
I decided not to give this book a star rating until after I have finished the second volume.

Another good book in the series about how Excalibur was created and how King Arthur grew up to be King as described through the eyes of Merlin.
