The Fort at River's Bend by Jack Whyte

3.0

This is the first half of the 5th book called "The Sorcerer" which the publisher had split the original book into two volumes without consulting with the author. Because of this, this book does not have an ending. The first page of Volume II is literally the next page after the last of volume I.
That's why it seems almost unfair to judge a book at its halfway point. But I will admit this first volume was slow because it focuses too much on the mundane domestics and other happenings. And although the author has stated that he only writes historical fiction, not fantasy, this comes close to touching on the fantastical. Is having foreknowledge/premonitions" fantastical"?
I decided not to give this book a star rating until after I have finished the second volume.
