I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, so I was excited to dive into book three. But honestly, this one just hasn’t hooked me (and I was halfway done). I can’t continue. It almost feels like I’m reading a book from a different author. The spark and connection I felt in the earlier books is missing here.

Hen was such a standout character in books 1 & 2—spunky, outgoing, and impossible not to root for. In this book, though, she just doesn’t shine the same way. I kept waiting for that same energy, but it never really came through. I also really missed Soledad and Yasmin; keeping up with them was one of my favorite parts of the trilogy, and their absence left a gap for me.

Overall, this just wasn’t my cup of tea. I know some readers might connect with it differently, but for me, it didn’t have the magic I was hoping for.

Overall I enjoyed it! I’ve been waiting for the third book of this series for a while! I got to hear Kennedy speak at Book event last week and she discussed how she uses romance books as a Trojan horse to discuss big social issues, with this book dealing with racial discrimination.

It was very heavily focused on Alzheimer’s and being a caretaker which is very real and can be a heavy load to carry. It was interesting that it was used as a main connector for Hendrix and Maverick to build their relationship. I’m all for a good love story and Black women being loved but idk that and Maverick constantly saying he gets what he wants no matter how long it takes was something that just bothered me a bit but otherwise I enjoyed it!

As usual Kennedy Ryan knocks it out of the park. I also appreciate childless by choice being represented in HEA tropes. She tackles complex relationships, tough family illness, grief, and loss.
