Idk why i thought this was YA, it is most definitely not YA. Don’t really know how to describe this book. It’s gory but sensual at the same time?? Like iv never read body horror written so beautifully. Its eco-horror meets unhinged female narrative meets magical realism ?? I feel like wattpad girlies who like magical realism would love this? Idk but it was very captivating. Disappointed it was so short cuz I have many unanswered questions & I need to know the actual plot miss author had in mind cuz my theories feel wildly incorrect. V bizzare and v surreal.
if anyone out there has read this, were samson and olivia brother and sister or not?? 😭 were they siblings who lied to their son or were they lovers having an affair that lied to ada by saying they were siblings ??

For a novel with such an unusual premise I don’t think that, aside from the rituals themselves, anything particularly odd happened in the novel. It was fairly tame. I have read a lot of ‘unhinged women’ lit lately, and Ada seemed fairly reasonable, aside from the whole burying her boyfriend in the ground thing.

What a weird fucking book. Like, I'm proud of myself for getting through it because it's more literary than I normally read for fun, but it was very odd. The author did some really interesting things stylistically, and I really enjoyed the magical realism of the book. The twists were pretty predictable, especially at the end, and it left be feeling... bereft? Adrift? The final "twist" didn't really have an impact because I called it about halfway through the book, so in the end, I guess I was just feeling a little unsatisfied.
