It was very atmospheric and had me gripped. I was wondering what was going on and was confused the whole time but I was never bored.

I especially liked the little snippets we got from the villagers/townspeople.

I’m not sure I understand the ending but I’m not mad at it.

All in all it was an interesting read.

Wow. My first thought after finishing Follow Me to Ground was, what on earth was Sue Rainford going through when she wrote this? My second thought was, holy crap this got dark fast.

If you enjoy dark realism thrillers this is a must read!

The vibes in this – impeccable. I do not know what I was expecting, maybe a more sci-fi/fantastical/romantic read. I'm SO glad I read this on audio, bc the second I heard southern accents, the southern gothic vibes clicked right into place. I'm not sure exactly how any of it would've clicked without that.

I love, love the structure of this. First off, I thought it was dual perspective with Ada and Samson, but being all through Ada's ("unnatural") perspective broken up by accounts of her own "myth" from townspeople was perfect for the atmosphere. I reread it almost immediately just to take in the vibes.

A truly interesting premise, and a grim narration. I enjoyed it, but maybe I had too high expectations. That said, perfect autumn read.

This book just didn’t connect with me. I enjoyed probably the first third, as the atmosphere was well established. The world was intriguing, the characters had potential, and there were a mysterious and unsettling elements introduced.

However, I felt like none of this set up ever went anywhere. The plot is limited, and the characters fall flat. There are of course reasons for these choices, but in this case it ended up feeling like the author didn’t really have fully developed ideas of these characters. There was no sense that there was more information beyond the text that we simply weren’t privy to as readers.
